Everyone would love to get six pack abs, but the problem is there are so many programs on the internet that claim they are the best to help you achieve this goal. Some of these programs are good while some are absolute crap. Deciphering which are the best methods that work and suits you is going to be critical to your having the result you desire.

One of the most important things to focus on when you want to get a six pack abs is your diet. Like it or not, working out for long hours and doing a ton of exercising is not going to get you closer to your goal if your diet is not on target. If your diet is not in line then your stomach will be a testament to it.

So how do you ensure that your diet is on targeted?

Firstly you should consume good proteins. Protein is essentially the building blocks to lean muscles growth and building muscle tissues. Also your body will burn more calories breaking down proteins as opposed to carbohydrates and other macro-nutrients.

Many fitness programs will tell you to eliminate fat if you want to build a six pack abs and get a stunning midsection. However that is not totally true. You should consume some amount of dietary fat. These are mono-unsaturated and polyunsaturated fats such as olive oils, fish oils, a mix of nuts, natural peanut butter and avocado.

This will give you some amount of energy as your body will break down stored fat for ATP which is energy for metabolism.

Additionally you also want your diet to contain some carbohydrates. You should have your carbohydrates intake post working out. This will help in muscle repair and recovery which means less down time working out for you.

If getting 6 pack abs fast is your goal than each meal you should consist of 1-2 cups of raw vegetables to control insulin levels, improve absorption of your protein and flood your body with vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants.

So, if you are aiming to get 6 pack abs in the coming months, have a good hard look at your diet. That is the big secret that must not be overlooked if you are to succeed.

Tight abs might be at the top of your resolution list this year – just like last year, and the year before that… This year, get off to a good start by learning what it really takes to flatten your stomach. There’s more to getting tight abs than just doing crunches. Below are 6 myths that you shouldn’t ignore if your goal is to have a sexy tummy.

#1 Myth: Abdominal muscle differs from other muscles.

The abdominal muscles are actually similar to all other body muscles. The only difference is location; they’re just not laying on a bony surface like biceps or quads. They need the same training as the chest or biceps do. Basic physiology laws pertain to all muscles, and that includes the abs. So to get tight abs, the exercises you do have to be effective on that group of muscles.

#2 Myth: You need to train daily to get tight abs.

Basic weight training rules say that you need to allow your muscles 24 hours to recover and rest, and this includes the muscles in your stomach too. That means you should work them either 3-4 times per week, or every other day, instead of daily. To obtain tight abs you should allow them a full day off to rest between your workouts. Working your stomach muscles diligently, and then allowing them time to repair and rest, is the secret to building strong muscles.

#3 Myth: Performing stomach exercises helps rid you of fat in the abdomen.

Spot reduction just doesn’t exist. Many believe that when you have deposits of fat on the abdomen, exercising those muscles will help fat vanish. This is just plain wrong. You will not rid yourself of the fat over your muscles by just exercising repeatedly on that part of the body. Only a healthy diet and the right exercises will burn stomach fat off to uncover the tight abs you’ve developed.

#4 Myth: To get tight abs you need to do high repetitions of an exercise.

As already mentioned above, abs are similar to all your other muscle groups. This means that you need to train your abs just like you do your other muscles. The way to get tight abs is to use resistance training to challenge your abdominal muscles. If you are able to do an exercise easily more than 20 times, then you need to add more resistance to your workout.

#5 Myth: Everyone can have a flat stomach if they exercise enough.

For a few individuals it’s just not physically possible to get a flat stomach. The muscles in the abdomen are naturally rounded, and not totally flat. Genetics, age, and gender all contribute to determining the shape, appearance, and size of your stomach. If you can’t achieve a flat stomach no matter what you do, don’t get discouraged. Simply by trying to achieve perfection, you will be in the kind of physical shape that most people would envy.

#6 Myth: Working out will make a bad back worse.

You can actually make your back much stronger by trying to get tight abs. Opposing muscles of the body tend to help each other out, so when your stomach muscles are weak your back muscles have to pick up the load. And when you strengthen your stomach muscles, it relieves the load from your back muscles and gives them a chance to heal.

Don’t let these myths ruin your efforts to improve your physical shape. Train wisely and strategically, and use workout techniques that zone in on your specific needs. Sexy, tight abs won’t happen without some work, but the right workout will make that work pay off a lot faster.

Stomach exercises work the same whether you’re a woman or a man. So why does it seem so much harder for a woman to get tight abs? The reason is simple – the majority of women waste their time on monotonous cardio routines and use wimpy barbie-doll weights. This kind of training will NOT increase your metabolic rate enough to trigger the hormonal response that can literally melt fat from your belly. If you’re serious about wanting to see fast results, then your stomach exercises should be part of a full-body routine that incorporates interval training.

A belly growing fat isn’t sexy, there’s just no way around it. The sad part is, that unattractive layer of fat hanging over the front of your pants probably doesn’t match the way you feel inside. But don’t get discouraged. If your belly is growing fat there are small steps you can take on a daily basis which can bring dramatic results.

A Belly Growing Fat Means It’s Time To Get Real

If you’re contemplating a program of self-improvement, you need to get real with yourself. You know that a belly growing fat doesn’t happen overnight, and it’s not going to go away overnight either. You’ll have to make some lifestyle changes if you want to change your body. When your desire to flatten your stomach is greater than your desire to sit on the couch and watch your favorite TV show, then you’ll be ready to take your first steps toward a sexier, healthier body.

Your Belly Growing Fat Puts You At Risk For Metabolic Syndrome

The idea of being more attractive to the opposite sex is a good motivation for losing stomach fat, but there are other reasons that are even more important. Your belly growing fat is a much bigger threat to your health than you may realize. If you also have other risk factors like high blood pressure and high blood glucose levels, then you’re a perfect candidate for a condition known as Metabolic Syndrome. When these risk factors are all present, your risk of developing heart disease, diabetes and stroke are sky high. But the great news is that losing stomach fat will automatically lower your risk for all of these health threats.

You Can Completely Reverse a Belly That’s Growing Fat

If you want to flatten your belly but you’re dreading the process, then you’ll be happy to know that you should start slowly. Everyone’s body is different, and all you need to do is enough exercise for your own body to feel challenged. Never compare your workout to another person’s, who might be in much better physical shape than you are right now. Your belly growing fat happened gradually, and the right exercises done regularly will gradually give you the strength and energy to go toe-to-toe with anyone.

Another piece of good news is that a starvation diet is actually counter-productive for losing weight. You’ll certainly see faster results if you make good food choices, but you don’t want to cut back so much that you end up feeling deprived. A much more effective tactic for losing belly fat is to eat 4-6 smaller meals each day, rather than 3 large ones. This, along with regular moderate exercise, will help increase your metabolism and burn fat even faster.

A sensible diet combined with a strategic workout plan will make a belly growing fat completely reverse itself. A huge side benefit is that you’ll have more energy, which will help you enjoy life a whole lot more. And you’ll even enjoy the looks you’ll start getting when you show off your sexy stomach!

Stomach crunches should be an essential part of your workout if you want to tone your abs. If you haven’t worked out in a while they’ll seem hard at first, especially if you’re not doing them correctly. The main thing to keep in mind is that your goal is to challenge your abdominal muscles, and not to attain a certain number of repetitions. When it comes to stomach crunches, the number isn’t as important as the effect it has on your muscles.

Make Stomach Crunches Part of an Overall Workout

If you have extra belly fat that you need to get rid of along with tightening your abs, then the reality is that you’ll need to include a full-body workout in addition to doing stomach crunches. It’s impossible to get tight abs just by stomach exercises alone, but that doesn’t mean you have to commit to boring workouts. Choose activities that exercise the large muscles in your body, and that you’ll enjoy enough to be able to stick with.

Why Stomach Crunches Are So Important

Stomach crunches will always be essential to getting flat abs, because they work on both the lower and upper abdominal muscles. An important set of muscles that they’re effective for is the rectus abdominals, which stretch from your ribs down to your hips. And the obliques, both external and internal, slope down the side of your body through your waist. This muscle set’s job is to rotate your torso in curling and twisting movements.

Besides tightening up your abs to give you a flat stomach, stomach crunches have an added benefit. If you suffer from back pain, toned abdominal muscles will take the pressure off your back and bring you a great deal of pain relief. The muscles in the human body are all connected in some way, and improving one area will always have an effect on an adjacent area.

Stomach Crunches – The Basics

To perform stomach crunches correctly, begin by lying flat on your back. Keep your arms at your sides and slowly bend your knees and point them at your chest. Keep your hips flat on the floor. Then slowly lift your shoulders off of the floor, and imagine that you are trying to point your rib cage toward your hips. If your abdominal muscles are weak you may only be able to move a few inches before you feel you’ve reached your limit. Listen to your body. Remember that your goal is to challenge your abs and slowly improve them, and what that takes will be different for everyone.

Reverse stomach crunches work your lower abs. To perform them correctly you want to be in the same starting position with your knees pointed toward your chest. This time you will keep your shoulders on the floor and slowly contract your abs, as if you are trying to point your knees just a little closer to your chest. The key to both forms of stomach crunches is to perform them slowly. Do not rush, and be sure to breathe deeply during the exercise.

All stomach exercises are helpful for toning your abs, but crunches are the most helpful of all. But remember that if you need to lose belly fat in addition to tightening your abs, you’ll need to make stomach crunches part of an overall workout to help you lose weight.

A six pack stomach is a very popular subject in the fitness industry. A simple web search will turn up hundreds of gimmicks and gadgets that promise to help you lose belly fat with little to no effort on your part. Getting a flat stomach is certainly an achievable goal, but if it was as easy as those products claim then we’d all have a six pack stomach by now.

Six Pack Stomach 101

What bothers me most about the stomach shaping products I see is that they’re based on a faulty theory. The truth is, stomach exercises alone aren’t going to give you a six pack stomach. If you’ve been training at all then you probably already have pretty decent abdominal muscles. They might just be covered up by an extra layer of fat that you need to work on.

Is Your Exercise Routine Sabotaging Your Efforts to Get a Six Pack Stomach?

You’ll have much better luck getting a six pack stomach by focusing your training on your entire body, instead of just your abs. Exercises that involve the large muscles use more energy, release fat-burning hormones in your body, and are the most effective for weight loss. Hundreds of reps of abdominal exercises won’t do anything to help you get rid of belly fat.

Workouts that target the big muscles in your legs and buttocks, chest and back will give you much better results in your efforts to get tight abs. Combining large muscle exercises with high intensity exercises in your trouble spots will work wonders for getting rid of belly fat. The main reason people don’t get the six pack stomach they’re looking for is because they try to take a shortcut around this fact.

A Six Pack Stomach Requires Resistance Training

Another mistake I see a lot of people make is not using enough resistance during their workout. You could do a hundred crunches, but if you’re not using enough resistance to challenge your stomach muscles then you won’t see any improvement. In fact, you shouldn’t even waste your time on any stomach exercise that you can easily do more than 20 reps of. If your goal is a six pack stomach, you need to use enough resistance so that you feel challenged to complete just 15 reps (or less) of a movement.

If you’re serious about stomach shaping, don’t let yourself be taken in by fitness gimmicks that will only waste your time and money. A six pack stomach requires work, but that doesn’t mean your workout has to be boring. Combine high intensity exercises with a good full-body workout, and you’ll soon have the sexy, tight abs you’re looking for.

Stomach exercise routines should include specific attention on the transverse abdominals, which are a muscle group that often gets neglected. They’re the core muscles that lie below the rectus abdominus. Most abdominal exercises target the vertical abdominals and the rectus abdominus, with little attention paid to the transverse abdominals. Even crunches, which most people consider to be the staple of stomach exercises, do nothing for the transverse abdominals. But these muscles are critically important to target, however, because they connect to both the rectus abdominus and the lower back muscles to form a girdle for the entire abdomen.

Any stomach exercise routine aimed at flattening your belly should include the transverse abdominals as a focus. Using the following stomach exercises, you can work on your transverse abdominals and really make progress on that flat tummy. As with any workout routine, be sure to consult a professional before beginning and always warm up properly to avoid injury.

Pelvic Tilts

This stomach exercise requires lying on your back on a flat surface, such as the floor or a bench. Use a mat or towel to cushion your spine. Bend your knees so that your feet are flat on the floor. Raise your pelvis (and only your pelvis) off the floor, hold momentarily, and then lower it back down. Repeat for an entire set. Maintaining a controlled movement is crucial to this exercise. This will allow you to use your abdominal muscles, rather than your body’s momentum, to do the work on the exercise. Also, be sure to keep your upper body on the floor throughout.

Crunch-less Crunch

This stomach exercise is fairly simple, but can also be challenging. Essentially, it involves trying to pull the belly button in towards the spine. This can be tricky, as it involves using muscles which you may not be used to activating. To start, either lie or on your stomach or kneel. You might want to try both ways and see which helps you feel the exercise better. Relax your body as much as possible, then try to use only the lower abdominals to move your belly button toward your spine. Hold for ten seconds. If holding for ten seconds feels easy, hold for a longer period. The goal is to hold the contraction until you either cannot feel it, or you feel other muscles working harder than the transverse abdominus. When you feel this, let the contraction out.

Scissor Kicks

This stomach exercise also requires lying on the floor. Position your hands under your butt, keeping your back pressed against the floor. Slowly raise one leg to a height of about ten inches, then slowly lower it back to the floor. As your lower one leg, raise the other. Repeat this motion for an entire set. Maintaining control throughout is important, not allowing momentum to get the better of you. Your upper body should remain on the floor through the entire move.

These abdominal exercises are key to flattening your tummy, and pregnant and post-partum women will find them particularly effective. There are other stomach exercises that target the transverse abdominals, but the three exercises above are definitely challenging enough to get you started.

It has almost become cliche, the statement reading, All you need to do to lose weight is eat less and move more! Everyone in the world knows that eating less is the best policy when trying to lose weight, but moving more seems to be the hurdle that causes the weight loss or diet plan to fall off the wagon again and again. But, what if I told you that exercise was causing you to lose less weight? Most people exercise early in the morning on an empty stomach. Maybe this is because they have read somewhere that the morning is the right time to exercise or that the only free time in the day is during the morning. Whatever the reason, exercising on an empty stomach, fresh and early can wreak havoc on your stomach. Exercise burns calories and will make you more hungry after the workout.

Paired with the euphoric state the body enters into after prolonged exercise (often as little as 30 to 45 minutes) can lead to overeating.

This is not to say that people who exercise in the morning are going to eat five eggs, three pieces of toast and two large glasses of orange juice after a workout, but the calculation of calories burned is often far higher than the actual calories burned during exercise.

Paired with the fact that many people underestimate the amount of calories they are consuming in a day, combines to make for a slower weight loss plan.

Losing weight quickly is not something that the body should aim to accomplish in any circumstances. Slower weight loss is weight loss that will stay off and weight loss that can be maintained indefinitely. But, approaching weight loss in the right way can help to boost that weight loss, especially during times when the pounds and the inches just don’t seem to be getting any smaller.

The key to an effective weight loss plan is to work in your work outs before another activity and not a meal. If you are going to hoof it on the treadmill for 25 minutes, as soon as you are done, shower and head out for a trip to the park or the coffee shop for a low-fat, sugar-free latte.

Another great choice is fiber. Fiber is going to fill up up without risking a huge number of calories, so before that workout eat a low-fat, low calorie snack bar that contains a lot of fiber. All-Bran makes great bars of this nature as does Slim-Fast.

The biggest downfall for people trying to lose weight are protein shakes and exercise wafers. Many of these shakes contain huge amounts of sugar as do the exercise waters. Everything you just burned off was added right back into your body with sugar. Watch the labels closely and only choose very low calorie wafers and protein shakes that are very low carb.

When choosing to lose weight and start a weight loss plan for life, getting the most out of your workouts is important. No only because working out is good for burning calories, but because activity in general is good for the heart and the body. Exercise can cause higher levels of hunger, so take precautions and watch your after workout snacks very carefully.

Stomach exercises are among the most frequently asked about and searched on (via internet) yet misunderstood subjects in the entire field of health, fitness and exercise. Regardless of age, experience or gender, everyone wants a flat stomach because the abdominal region is the true showcase of your physique. Since the abs are usually the last place to shape up and lean out, then most people would say that if you’ve got abs, you’ve got it all.

Well, in my way of thinking, this is only partially true. There’s more to a complete physique than abdominal exercises and six pack abs and most people are completely wrong about stomach exercises and stomach muscles. (you’ll find out why in just a moment)…

The Difference Between 6-Pack Abs And Truly Fit Abs

Having a great looking set of abs is very much a matter of low body fat. But make no mistake, just being lean and seeing a six-pack doesn’t mean you are strong, fit or conditioned. Real fitness means more than visible muscle development, it means strength, endurance, and stability, and this type of true functional fitness does not come from merely eating the right foods or reducing your body fat.

Nutrition is so important that you could even say that abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym and you would not be telling a lie. But this clever maxim is not telling the whole truth either. Great abs come from nutrition AND training, not one or the other. The training develops them. The nutrition uncovers them.

Don Juan Ponce de Leon arrived in America in 1493 looking for a fountain of youth and today in the stomach exercise marketplace, it seems that far too many people are looking for a magic fountain in order to flatten their waistlines.

Ponce never found the fountain of youth and you will never find a magical solution for flat abs. There are no short cuts. It takes a change in lifestyle to get a change in health, physique and performance. That includes nutrition AND training. There’s No Such Thing As Stomach Exercises

THIS is your stomach! Proper choice of exercise is a critical factor in your quest for a firm and flat waistline. But you will never get a great stomach from ANY stomach exercise because your stomach is a part of your digestive tract, not your skeletal muscular system! So let’s get the terminology straight, shall we? The area of you body you really want to improve is called your core region. Many people refer to it as the abdominal region.

However, training only with stomach exercise is NOT the optimal approach. The abdominals only include the front (anterior) side of your body and if the only type of training you do is abdominal training, you may be unwittingly setting yourself up for lower back problems. If you don’t think this is serious, then consider this statistic: According to the

American Chiropractic Association, more than 31 million Americans are suffering from low back pain at any given time. So would you like to trade great abs for a bad back? I didn’t think so. The good news is that you can kill two birds with one stone. You can develop great abdominal muscles, great core muscles and a strong, pain-free back by using exercises that focus not on the stomach, (which is not a muscle you train at all), not on the abdominals, (which is only part of the muscles you need to target), but on the entire core.

The core is the key to your success. The core is the entire complex of muscles around your hip and waist region from your lower rib cage to the bottom of your pelvis. If you just focus on abdominal exercises alone (or stomach exercises,), you will develop what I refer to as a one dimensional body. I focus on training the body as a whole, or multi-dimensional training to develop a complete person and to develop effective and powerful athletes.

What every program I write has in common is that I do not attempt to isolate the abdominals (or train the stomach muscles!) It’s all about the core and about integrating your body as a unit so you function better in daily life. As you do core-focused exercise programs you are improving not only your muscular system but also the systems that drives your muscular system – that is, the nervous system.

This may very well be the most important secret for getting better results in your workout programs. The more efficiently your nervous system works, the better your results will be. Core workouts that improve both muscular strength and conditioning while also improving neural drive and develop stronger neural control of the associated muscles.

* THIS is why my brand of core training gets results in women who have had C-sections, or other abdominal surgeries when nothing else worked

* THIS is why the core exercises I recommend will flatten out a pooching belly, which is a result of deep muscular weakness and lack of neuromuscular control (It’s NOT just a body fat problem!)

* THIS is why my clients have overcome lower back pain when all else failed

* THIS is why my workout program has helped men and women recover from embarrassing incontinence

* THIS is how I have helped hundreds of new moms regain their flat and firm midsections after having their babies

* THIS is why my clients remain injury free, while so many other training programs are actually the CAUSE of injuries * And THIS is why my type of training – PROGRESSIVE CORE TRAINING – develops amazing athletes – top wrestlers, PGA golfers, and pro boxers with powerful punches and abs of steel. I’ve written an entire book about core training (Firm And Flatten Your Abs), which you learn more about on the Flatten Your Abs home page, as well as dozens of articles which you can read elsewhere on this site (or you can subscribe to my biweekly newsletter).

The purpose of this article was not to give more workout routines (there are plenty of core training workouts to be found on this site and in my book and lots more to come in upcoming issues of my newsletter). The purpose of this article was to install 3 incredibly important lessons into your brain:

* You can’t train your stomach because your stomach is an internal organ of digestion not a skeletal muscle!

* You can’t totally isolate your abdominals because your abdominals do not work in isolation, they work in conjunction with the rest of your body (and isolation as with only doing crunches, is not the optimal approach anyway).

* You get more by training your core! You become a better athlete, you help prevent injuries, you get stronger and you get that coveted 6-pack abs look. I hope the morals of these lessons have already sunk in and will become a part of your own fitness philosophy… and the next time you hear someone talk about stomach exercises, you’ll now be able to get a good chuckle out of that.By: David Grisaffi

Over the past 20 years there as been a rapidly increasing numbers of ab gadgets, fat loss pills, and new miracle diets. All of the above have promised losing stomach fat and getting flat abs, however none of the above have ever succeeded. I am positive that you have seen at least 25 different ads already this year promising long lasting, fast, fat loss from around your stomach. I know I have counted over 43 of them and it’s only a few weeks into the year. This makes me sick….The problem is that most of the stomach exercises that are recommended all over the internet, and in magazines, etc, are not necessarily the best method to get that six-pack abs appearance. First and foremost, the most important aspect for great looking six pack abdominals is losing the extra belly fat that is covering them up. To be honest, most people already have decent abdominals underneath, however their six pack abs are being covered by a layer of stomach fat.

So today I have come to set the record straight once and for all on how to effectively train your stomach for optimal fat loss. The truth about abs is actually that crunches and situps won’t give you flat abs. Neither will those fancy abdominal gadgets or costly weight loss pills. However what will give you the greatest and most beneficial abdominal workout is doing full body exercises that work multiple muscle regions all at the same time.

Exercises that work the large muscle groups of the legs, upper and lower back, and chest give you the biggest metabolic bang for your buck in terms of abdominal fat loss. Combining these types of big multi-joint exercises in high intensity super-set, tri-set, or circuit fashion gives you the biggest fat-burning and metabolism boosting response from your workouts.

And that is one of the best kept secrets for flat sexy abdominals that are actually visible as a six-pack!

Now when it comes to abdominal-specific exercises, another mistake most people make is mindlessly pumping away with hundreds of crunches and other meaningless stomach exercises that barely give your abdominals much resistance to work against. If you want to actually develop your abdominals to the best extent possible, don’t waste your time with exercises that you can do more than 20 or 25 reps… that means you are definitely not doing an exercise that provides enough resistance to the abs. Exercises that give you enough resistance to get you down into the 6-15 rep range per set works great for the abs.

Generally, higher resistance stomach exercises that provide a much larger stimulus to the abs come in the form of exercises that involve raising/curling the legs and pelvis either upward or inward closer to the trunk. A couple great examples of these higher resistance abdominal exercises are hanging leg raises or knee raises using a “pelvic curl up”, or an exercise like lying hip thrusts. Many times, the same people that can do 50 or 100 crunches, can’t even complete more than 2 or 3 properly executed hanging leg raises.

If you really want tighter flatter abdominals that look like a six-pack, remember that losing that extra belly fat is the MOST important factor. Also, when it comes to abdominal-specific exercises, always remember higher resistance exercises that involve curling/raising the legs and pelvis upward or inward are what develops the abs to the best extent possible.

So with that being said it is very important that you also have your diet, or what I prefer to say ‘supportive meal plan’, in place to complement your fitness routine.
